Whether sifting through sand, or scrambling over a rocky shore, it's about finding treasures in every day.

Our Boat Pets

There are two pets living aboard our boat: two fish. Not your ordinary fish, either. Meet Halibut

Halibut is a mellow guy. He likes to ponder life. He can fathom the deep stuff.

This is Skate. I know, he sort of looks like a stingray. There’s a little bit of an identity crisis going on inside him. Sometimes it comes out as a ‘tude, but he’s a good guy.

Halibut and Skate have been with us for years. They listen intently, give good hugs, and travel well. They are great pets, and save us when well-meaning friends try to bestow cats and dogs on us. Cats and dogs are wonderful, but our two fish fit our lifestyle much better.

Halibut and Skate got really excited when they heard we were moving aboard a boat. They gave each other a high fin and packed that day. Looking out the boat windows is way more fun for them than watching Animal Planet.

Sometimes I write down things that they tell us. They would write them down, but it is tough to hold a pencil with fins.

Halibut sez, "Swimming with the current doesn’t always get you where you want to go."

Skate sez, "There’s lunch and there’s bait. Know the difference."

Halibut sez, "An elegant dive doesn’t make a splash."

Skate sez, "Bottom dwellers are underrated."

Mom says, "Who's been nibbling on the bait herring in the freezer?"
